Da sempre l'Uomo ha cercato di scoprire il segreto celato nei misteri del mondo. L'Uomo si è sempre distinto dalle altre creature perché si è sempre interrogato su ciò che lo circonda, ed ha cercato di darsi delle spiegazioni per ciò che accade nella sua vita... L'intelligenza dell'Uomo deve essere soddisfatta, e l'intelligenza è essenziale per la comprensione delle cose. L'Uomo istintivamente sente di dover raggiungere la felicità, ma questa può essere raggiunta solo dopo che i misteri che lo circondano vengano da lui compresi e la Verità infine svelata. La felicità implica anche la lotta contro la sofferenza. Perciò, la comprensione della sofferenza è indispensabile per la comprensione della vita stessa.

Nella storia, l'Uomo razionale è a volte prevalso sull'Uomo spirituale, il Saggio che, attraverso il controllo e le rinunce, lotta per l'unione del proprio Sé con il Sé Cosmico. L'Uomo razionale trova sicuramente molto difficile comprendere le motivazioni del Saggio, il quale conduce la sua vita a beneficio di tutti. La Materia contro lo Spirito. Come risulta difficile all'Uomo unire il materiale e lo spirituale in un amalgama perfetto che possa permettergli di vivere nella pace e nella comprensione!

La Religione è stato il primo tentativo dell'Uomo di dare una spiegazione del mondo. E' il risultato della sua ricerca della Verità e della felicità in questa vita. Nella filosofia moderna, la parola religione non significa altro che la relazione dell'Uomo con il mondo sopranaturale ed eterno. E' nella Religione - e non importa se nel Confucianesimo, Cristianesimo, lnduismo, Buddismo, Islamismo, Giudaismo, etc. - che l'Uomo ha trovato una visione della Realtà che lo ha soddisfatto. La Religione gli ha svelato alcuni dei misteri di questa vita, o almeno questo è quanto l'Uomo ha voluto credere nei Secoli. E' tutta un'illusione? Tutte le religioni implicano una Fede, perciò nessuna religione metterebbe in dubbio la Verità svelata.

Alcune religioni primitive consideravano le stelle nel cielo come degli dei: il cielo è stato sempre considerato uno dei "misteri" dell'universo, e perciò "divino". Comunque, una caratteristica comune a tutte le religioni - anche le primitive - è la relazione fra Cielo e Terra, spirituale e materiale, forze cosmiche Femminili e Maschili - Yin e Yang nella filosofia cinese. E l'Uomo deve lottare per equilibrare queste due forze naturali, perché possa condurre una vita giusta e retta, in modo da raggiungere la felicità. Ecco perché la caratteristica principale della Religione è quella di stabilire "leggi" - dharma - che regolino la vita dell'Uomo e formino i suoi valori etici. Così come per la parola dharma in sanscrito, la parola religione ha un significato concreto in tutte le lingue. In cinese, ad esempio, la parola jiao vuol dire "insegnamento": infatti, la Religione si occupa dello "insegnamento" dei valori dell'Uomo, che implicano il controllo delle sue passioni. L'Uomo è l'unica creatura che possa riuscirci, e la Religione gli dà le spiegazioni necessarie, indicandogli la via che conduce alla manifestazione di quelle forze spirituali che risiedono segretamente in lui. Il filosofo tedesco Ludwig Feuerbach (1804-1872) credeva che la Natura fosse l'oggetto principale della Religione, che è la base della dipendenza dell'Uomo, il sentimento, la consapevolezza dell'Uomo che non si può esistere senza un altro essere che sia diverso da lui, e che la sua esistenza non dipende da lui. La Natura, Dio o gli dei, l'insegnamento comune a tutte le Religioni è che la nostra vita non è senza significato, e che per portare a termine il nostro "progetto di vita" dobbiamo imparare a controllare le nostre passioni e i nostri desideri.

Anche l'Astrologia ha avuto origine dallo stesso desiderio insito nella Religione: la ricerca della Verità in questa vita, per il raggiungimento della felicità.

Sebbene anche in Astrologia esiste un rapporto fra spirituale e materiale, Cielo e Terra, Yin e Yang, la Religione e l'Astrologia non sono identici in quanto, mentre la Religione ha come scopo ultimo il nutrimento del divino che è in noi, l'Astrologia può solo renderci consapevoli della sua esistenza, e indicarci come possiamo unire le necessità materiali con quelle spirituali, equilibrando le forze cosmiche Yin e Yang che si trovano in noi. Pertanto l'Astrologia può considerarsi uno strumento per la ricerca della nostra anima. In un certo senso, dà conferma del valore della Religione, perché dà prova dell'esistenza dell'anima. E dà anche prova dell'esistenza di una Forza Sopranaturale che è fonte della vita stessa.

Se l'astrologia è una conferma delle teorie religiose, l'Astrologia e la Religione non debbono considerarsi come due diversi approcci alla Verità. Nella carta natale, l'astrologo vede nel cielo e nelle stelle un'espressione di Dio che ha creato l'universo, e l'Uomo si trova nel centro della Sua creazione. Inoltre, la carta astrologica ci fa comprendere quanto l'influenza dei pianeti sia minima rispetto all'Onnicomprensivo e Superiore potere di Dio, che sicuramente aiuterà l'individuo a crescere spiritualmente, se vorrà incontrare il divino che è in lui e seguire i suggerimenti della Sua Presenza. Se la carta astrologica viene considerata in questa prospettiva, si noterà come gli insegnamenti religiosi e la lettura della carta natale avranno dei punti in comune, poiché quest'ultima utilizza un linguaggio ispirato dalle stelle che fanno parte di questo meraviglioso universo creato da Dio. Il filosofo greco Plutarco (50-120 A.D. circa) credeva che lo spirito che guida l'universo ha nomi e culti differenti, proprio come il Sole, la Luna, il Cielo, la Terra e il Mare sono comuni a tutti, pur essendo chiamati in modo diverso. Tutto ciò non implica assolutamente che l'Astrologia sia un altro credo religioso, come si credeva anticamente. E nemmeno che l'Astrologia sia una magia, così come si credeva in Europa durante il Medioevo.

L'Astrologia è un'arte. E fa parte della nostra Cultura. Non possiamo negarne l'esistenza, così come non possiamo negare l'esistenza dei credi religiosi. Sebbene l'Astrologia dia conferma di alcune teorie religiose - poiché guida l'individuo verso la sua crescita spirituale - non è una Religione. Alcune autorità religiose considerano l'Astrologia come l'antitesi della Religione, ma ciò è assurdo. Essi non si rendono conto che, così facendo, non solo ingannano i loro adepti, ma non assolvono alla loro stessa missione, che si deve fondare solo su principi di ordine spirituale. Sicuramente, come tutti gli esseri umani, essi potranno avere delle loro proprie opinioni, ma queste opinioni non possono tradursi in principi religiosi da rendere pubblici. Inoltre, quando si scagliano contro l'astrologia, queste autorità religiose danno l'impressione di non essere saldi nelle loro convinzioni religiose, perché vedono nell'astrologia una minaccia. D'altra parte, credo che una persona religiosa possa studiare l'astrologia per comprendere meglio il proprio carattere e le energie che sono coinvolte nella sua psiche, proprio come potrebbe studiare Psicologia, o Anatomia - se intende sapere di più sul suo corpo e le sue funzioni. Perché tutto ciò dovrebbe essere considerato come una minaccia alla propria fede religiosa? E se la Psicologia o l'Anatomia non costituiscono una minaccia, perché dovrebbe esserlo l'Astrologia? Bisogna anche considerare che siamo ormai nel III Millennio. Il passato è il passato. Io non c'ero durante il Medioevo o l'Impero Romano, ma sono qui adesso. Sono cosciente del fatto che vi sia chi ai nostri giorni si fa chiamare astrologo, ma che invece distorce il vero significato dell'Astrologia - che, ripeto, è quello di conoscere meglio se stessi e le energie che circondano l'universo, conoscenza volta al conseguimento del progetto di vita. Queste persone sono solo interessate a fare dell'astrologia un "business". Ma questo mondo è pieno di ciarlatani e truffatori! Purtroppo, si trovano in ogni settore - in Psicologia come in Astrologia o in Medicina! Pertanto, il nostro obiettivo deve essere quello di inseguire il vero significato dell'Astrologia, selezionando attentamente le persone che ne fanno un buon uso, proprio come in ogni altro settore della nostra vita.

Gli insegnamenti della Religione e dell'Astrologia sono entrambi rivolti alla comprensione di chi siamo veramente, alla consapevolezza di noi stessi. Il loro compito principale è quello di istruire l'Uomo. Infatti, abbiamo prima visto quanto sia importante la Religione per l'istruzione - jiao in cinese - dell'Uomo attraverso le leggi - dharma - che mettono ordine nella sua vita. Queste leggi si riflettono nella carta natale, secondo le necessità personali di ognuno.

Il ruolo educativo dell'Astrologia mette in evidenza l'importanza dell'Animo dell'individuo così come viene indicato nella sua carta natale, nella quale l'aspetto materiale non dovrà mai prevalere su quello spirituale, ma ad ognuno di loro sarà dato il giusto riconoscimento. Deve essere ricercato l'equilibrio fra Yin e Yang. A qualsiasi religione l'individuo appartenga, nella sua carta natale saranno ben evidenziati i valori della religione, così come il suo approccio ad essi, e la via che dovrà seguire per il raggiungimento degli obiettivi spirituali.

Rahu (il Nodo Nord) e Ketu (il Nodo Sud) hanno un ruolo importante nell'identificazione del percorso spirituale dell'individuo. Guardare alla posizione di Rahu e Ketu nelle case e nei segni per capire il karma della persona sotto esame - oppure quale tipo di esperienze dovrà fare per progredire spiritualmente in questa vita - dovrebbe costituire il primo passo dell'astrologo il cui approccio può essere chiamato "educativo" e "spirituale" allo stesso tempo, perché riferito ad un atteggiamento volto a capire ed evidenziare il percorso spirituale indicato nella carta natale. L'orientalista Mircea Eliade spiega come il "centro" sia stato sempre considerato il luogo dove dimora il sacro. Secondo alcune credenze indiane, per esempio, il monte Meru si trovava nel centro del mondo, e la stella polare brilla sul suo apice. Lo stesso avviene presso i popoli Uralo-altaici, che credevano che il monte Sumeru fosse situato nel centro del mondo, e al suo apice vi fosse fissata la stella polare. In Iran, il sacro Heraberezaiti si trova nel centro della Terra ed è legato al Cielo. Credenze simili vi erano fra altri popoli e culture diverse, dalla Finlandia al Giappone. Il "centro" può indicare anche la fine del viaggio dell'individuo interessato al percorso che porta al suo sé interiore. Il percorso non è facile, ma pieno di difficoltà, pericoli, perché in fondo si tratta del passaggio dal profano al sacro, dall'effimero e illusorio alla realtà ed eternità, dalla morte alla vita, dall'Uomo alla divinità. L'accesso al "Centro" è come un'iniziazione; incomincia una nuova vita, vera e duratura, dopo una vita profana ed illusoria. Proprio come nell'atto della Creazione, il Cosmo viene dopo il Caos.

L'Astrologia è la prova che l'Uomo è anche fatto di spirito. E nella carta natale si vede "l'anima che lotta contro l'ignoto", ed anche "il percorso che conduce ad un mondo superiore". La vita è una continua lotta che crea sofferenza. Ma, come disse Sant'Agostino nella "Città di Dio": "Non è importante che cosa soffriamo, quanto il sentimento che accompagna le nostre sofferenze". Se noi siamo consapevoli del nostro scopo nella vita, se noi veramente crediamo in una Volontà Cosmica, Superiore, nella Volontà di Dio, se noi abbiamo la Fede, allora questo nostro sentimento accompagnerà le nostre sofferenze, attraverso le quali cresceremo spiritualmente.

Mi immagino già di sentire l'Uomo materialista che ride a ciò che ho appena detto. Lasciatelo ridere. Il suo percorso è pieno di difficoltà e pericoli proprio come quello dell'Uomo saggio, ma quest'ultimo è più forte, perché lui conosce, ed ha fiducia in se stesso e nelle forze naturali - o cosmiche - che lo circondano. Ma l'Uomo materialista ha solo il potere limitato dell'Uomo! Egli ha solo fiducia nella scienza. Non è interessato a conoscere - vidya. Non è interessato a dare un significato a ciò che lo circonda. Egli non è umile, e non può esserlo, perché l'umiltà è una delle virtù che insegna la Religione. D'altra parte, l'Uomo religioso o spirituale è colui che umilmente ringrazia il suo Dio, la Natura o gli dei, ogni giorno della sua vita. Egli ringrazia Dio per ciò che gli ha donato, Lo ringrazia per la bellezza che lo circonda, e Lo ringrazia anche per le sue sofferenze, perché egli sa che anch'esse hanno un significato.

Anche l'astrologo dovrebbe avere lo stesso atteggiamento dell'Uomo religioso, perché a lui è stata data una conoscenza che gli permette di decifrare alcune leggi della Natura.

Concluderò considerando l'annosa questione della possibilità che esista per l'Uomo il libero arbitrio, nella Religione come in Astrologia.

Considerando ciò che ho letto sulle diverse religioni esistenti e secondo la mia personale esperienza in Astrologia, credo che vi sia una parte di libero arbitrio in tutti noi. Infatti, nella Religione - come in Astrologia - il libero arbitrio non può voler dire che l'Uomo può decidere interamente della sua vita. Ogni persona ha abilità sue proprie che non sono di altri. Per esempio, non siamo tutti bravi uomini d'affari o insegnanti. Anche se io avessi voluto diventare una donna d'affari, non avrei mai potuto, perché non sono stata dotata di quelle particolari abilità necessarie per fare buoni affari. La parte di libero arbitrio nella nostra vita è insita nella possibilità che ci viene data di scegliere.

Per l'uso che io faccio dell'astrologia, che ripeto, è essenzialmente educativo e spirituale, volto alla crescita del proprio Io, trovo che le scelte che facciamo dovrebbero coincidere con la posizione che Rahu e Ketu hanno nelle case e nei segni che occupano. Sfortunatamente, molta gente decide di rimanere dove si trova il loro Ketu. Noi ci sentiamo attratti per natura a rimanere nella posizione di Ketu, perchè è più facile, dato che ci siamo ormai abituati e ci sentiamo in un certo qual modo "sicuri". Ma è tutta un'illusione. Dovremmo essere abbastanza coraggiosi per decidere in favore del percorso che ci guiderà alla nostra "nuova vita". E' qui che scatta il nostro libero arbitrio. Ho notato che persone che si trovano a dover prendere delle decisioni ma si rifiutano di farlo sono inclini ad ammalarsi, e talvolta gravemente. Ciò non è altro che una conferma di ciò che ho appena detto. Siamo abituati a pensare al Libero Arbitrio come a qualcosa facile da ottenere, ma non è così. Questa falsa comprensione ci ha fatto pensare che non può esistere, e vi sono persone che non fanno nulla nella loro vita perché pensano di non dovere, che Dio li guiderà. Ma Dio giuda coloro che hanno la volontà di intraprendere il difficile cammino che li conduce verso la felicità. Il punto sta che devono volerlo. Se mi siedo e aspetto, rimarrò dove sto. Se non decido di muovermi, rimarrò sempre nello stesso posto. E' troppo facile pensare che Dio sia responsabile di tutto. Dio ci può aiutare a raggiungere la nostra strada e a percorrerla, ma solo se lo vogliamo veramente. Io credo che tutto ciò sia indicato chiaramente nella carta astrologica, che ci può aiutare ad intravedere il nostro percorso evolutivo. Ma dopo, ognuno di noi, secondo le proprie capacità, deve muoversi verso quel percorso, cercando di evitare i cattivi aspetti che caratterizzano il segno e la casa che ospita Rahu.

La Religione e l'Astrologia possono veramente aiutare l'Uomo a creare, nel suo intimo, l'unità fra Terra e Cielo.

Man, Religion and Astrology

Man has searched after the secret of all worldly mysteries since his first appearance on Earth. Queries about everything that surrounds him, explanations for what happens in his life: in this lies the major distinction between Man and the other creatures crowding this world.
Man’s intelligence needs to be satisfied. Intelligence is essential in understanding.
Happiness is the goal that Man instinctively feels he should reach throughout his life. And happiness can better be attained after the mysteries surrounding his life are unveiled and Truth finally found. Happiness also implies that suffering must be fought. Therefore, the understanding of worldly sufferings is a must in order to comprehend life.
In some periods in history the rational Man has prevailed over the Man in contemplation, the wise Man who, by undergoing severe privations, fights towards the union of his own Self with the Cosmic Self. It is indeed very difficult for the rational Man to understand the motivations of the wise Man, whose life is led for the benefit of all beings. Material versus Spiritual. How difficult it is for Man to merge the material and the spiritual into a perfect blend in order to walk the path of life in peace and understanding!

Religion is the first attempt of Man to explain this world. It is the outcome of his search for Truth and happiness in life. In modern philosophy, the word religion is agreed to mean the relationship of Man with the supernatural and eternal world. And no matter what the creed is - Confucianism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, etc. - it is in Religion that Man has found the vision of Reality he has always aspired to. Religion has unveiled some of the mysteries of life, or at least this is what Man has believed throughout the Ages. Is it all an illusion? All religions imply Faith, therefore no religion would doubt about the Truth unveiled.
Some early religions were relating the stars in the sky to gods: the sky above us has always been considered one of the "mysteries" of this universe, and therefore "divine". However, a common feature of early as well as later religions, is the relation between Heaven and Earth, the spiritual and the material, the Masculine and Feminine cosmic forces - Yin and Yang in Chinese philosophy. And Man has to strive in order to balance these two natural forces, for him to lead a straightforward and righteous life and therefore achieve happiness. This is the reason why Religion's main feature is to lay down "laws„ - dharma - which should regulate Man's life and also make up his ethical values.
As for the word dharma in Sanskrit, the word religion has a concrete meaning in all languages. In Chinese, for instance, the word jiao means "teaching": as a matter of fact, Religion is concerned with the "teaching" of the values of Man, which imply control over his passions. Man is the only creature capable of doing so, and Religion gives him the necessary explanations by leading him to the higher and subtle forces that lie deep within himself, to the spiritual, immaterial side of himself.
The German philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach (1804-1872) believed that Nature is the main object of Religion, which is itself the basis of Man’s sense of dependence: which is the sentiment, or awareness of Man that he does not exist, or cannot exist without another being different from himself, and that he does not owe to himself his own existence.
Nature, God or the gods, the teaching common to all Religions is that our life is not meaningless, we are called to perform duties which imply control over our passions and desires in order to attain our life project.

Astrology has also originated from that same genuine desire found in Religion: the search for the Truth in life in order to attain happiness. Although in Astrology we also find a relation between the spiritual and the material, Heaven and Earth, Yin and Yang, these common features cannot make Religion and Astrology identical in scope: Religion was born to feed the divine within us, whereas Astrology can only make us aware of it and show a possible way to combine the material needs with the spiritual ones, therefore balancing the Yin and Yang cosmic forces within ourselves.
Astrology can therefore be a means to seek our soul. It confirms Religion in that it shows evidence for the existence of the soul in Man. And it also proves the existence of a Supernatural Force which is the source of life. Being astrology a confirmation of the religious theories, Astrology and Religion should not be considered as two different approaches to the Truth.
In the natal chart the astrologer may consider the sky and its stars as an expression of God who has created the universe, with Man standing in the middle of His creation. Moreover, the astrological chart highlights how the influence of the planets is limited when compared to the Higher, Omnicomprehensive power of God, who is definitely going to help the individual grow spiritually, if he comes in touch with the divine within himself and is willing to follow the suggestions given by this Higher Presence. By looking at the astrological chart in this perspective, the religious teachings would not clash with the reading of the chart, which uses a language inspired by the stars making up this marvelous universe created by God. The Greek philosopher Plutarch (circa 50-120 A.D.) believed that the spirit that guides the universe has different names and cults just like the Sun, Moon, Sky, Earth and Sea are common to all, but they are named differently by the peoples.
All this should not imply that Astrology is another religious creed, as believed in ancient times. Nor that Astrology is like magic, as believed in Europe during the Middle Ages.
Astrology is an art by itself. And it is part of our Culture. We cannot deny its existence, just as we cannot deny the existence of the religious creeds. Although Astrology confirms some theories of Religion - in that it guides the individual toward his spiritual growth - it is not a Religion. Some religious authorities still look at Astrology as competing with Religion, but this is absurd. They don't realize that, by doing so, they not only mislead their followers, but they deviate from their own mission, which should be founded on spiritual principles only. Of course, like all human beings, they may also have opinions of their own, but these opinions cannot become the religious principles to be popularized.
Moreover, by the use of harsh words against Astrology, these religious authorities give the impression that their religious creeds are very fragile, because they look at Astrology as a menace. On the other hand, I believe that a religious person can also study Astrology in order to understand more about her character and the energies involved in her psyche, just in the same way as she may study Psychology, or Anatomy - if she wants to know more about her body and its functions. Why should all this be considered as a menace to one's religious creed? And if Psychology and Anatomy are not a menace, why should Astrology be so?
It should also be considered that we are now in the 3rd Millennium. The past is the past. I was not there during the Middle Ages or in the Roman Empire, but I am here now. I know that there are some people nowadays who call themselves astrologers, but who are instead distorting the real meaning of Astrology - which, I repeat, is the one of better knowing ourselves and the energies surrounding the universe, knowledge leading to the attainment of our life project. These people are only interested in making of Astrology a business for their own benefit. But this world is full with frauds and charlatans! They are, unfortunately, to be found in every field of life - in Psychology as in Astrology or Medicine! Therefore, we should be concerned with the real meaning of Astrology, carefully selecting the people who make the right use of it, just like in every other field of life.

The teachings of Religion and Astrology are both directed towards the awareness of ourselves, understanding who we actually are. Their common major task is the education of Man. We have in fact seen how important Religion is for the education - jiao in Chinese - of Man through laws - dharma - that put order in his life. These laws are naturally reflected in the natal chart, according to the personal needs of each. The educational role of Astrology points out the importance of the Soul of the individual as indicated in his chart, where the material should not prevail over the spiritual, but both be given the right recognition. The balance of the Yin and the Yang should be sought. No matter the religion the individual belongs to, in his chart the values of religion are clearly shown, as well as his own approach to them, and the path he should follow in order to gain his spiritual goals.
Rahu (the North Node) and Ketu (the South Node) have a major role in identifying the spiritual path of the individual. Understanding the karma of the person under examination, or what kind of experience he has to go through in order to progress spiritually in the present life, by looking at the position of Rahu and Ketu in signs and houses, should be the first step of the Astrologer whose approach can be called "educational" and "spiritual" at the same time, denoting the attitude to grasp and point out the spiritual path shown on the chart.
The orientalist Mircea Eliade explains how the "centre„ has always been considered the place where the sacred is found. According to Indian beliefs, for instance, mount Meru is located in the centre of the world, and the polar star shines on its top. The same occurs with the Ural-altaic peoples, who believed mount Sumeru to stand in the centre of the world, on top of which the polar star was fixed. In Iran, the sacred Haraberezaiti is found in the centre of the Earth and is linked with the Sky. Similar beliefs are found among other peoples and different cultures, in Finland as in Japan.
The "centre" may also indicate the end of the journey for the individual who looks for the path leading to his inner self. This path is not easy, but full of hardships, dangers, because it actually is a passage from profane to sacred, from ephemeral and illusory to reality and eternity, from death to life, from Man to divinity. Access to the "Centre" is like an initiation; a new existence comes, real and longlasting, after a profane and illusory one. Like in the act of Creation, Cosmos comes after Chaos.

Astrology is the evidence of the spiritual in Man, of the divine within himself. And in the natal chart the "soul struggling against the unknown" is shown, as well as "the path leading to a higher world". Life is a continuous struggle that brings about sufferings. But, as St. Augustine said in "The City of God": "It is not important what we suffer, as much as the sentiment accompanying our sufferings". If we are conscious of our scope in life, if we really believe in a Cosmic, Higher Will, in the Will of God, if we have Faith, then this sentiment of ours will accompany our sufferings, through which we may grow spiritually .
I can hear the material Man laughing at what I just said. Let him laugh. His path is full of hardships and dangers just like the one of the wise Man, but the latter is stronger, because he knows, and he relies on himself as well as on the cosmic or natural forces surrounding him. But the material Man is left with the limited power of....Man. He relies on science only. He is not interested in knowledge - vidya. He is not interested in giving a meaning to everything that surrounds him. He is not humble, and he cannot be, as humbleness is one of the virtues taught by Religion. On the other hand, the religious or spiritual Man is one whose humble behaviour leads him to be thankful to his God, Nature or the gods, every day of his life. He thanks God for what he has been given, he thanks Him for the beauty around him, he even thanks Him for his own sufferings, because he knows that they, too, have a meaning.
The Astrologer should he too adopt the behaviour of the religious Man, because he is given a knowledge which allows him to decipher some of the laws of Nature.

as long as sentient beings will be,
may I also be to alleviate the sufferings of the sentient beings"

I will conclude by considering the eternal question whether in Religion as in Astrology there is for Man the possibility of Free Will.
After having been reading extensively on different Religions and according to my own experience in Astrology, I believe that there is a part of Free Will in all of us. In fact, in Religion - as in Astrology - Free Will cannot mean that Man can decide of his entire life. Each person has abilities which are not of all. For instance, we are not all good businessmen or teachers. Even if I myself wanted to be a businesswoman, I could never be, because I am not endowed with certain abilities needed in order to make good business.
The part of Free Will in our life is found in the possibility given to us to choose.
In the use that I make of Astrology, which is, I repeat, mostly educational and spiritual, directed towards the growth of the inner Self, I find that the choices we make should coincide with the direction of Rahu - its sign and house position. Unfortunately, many people choose to stay still where their Ketu is. We are naturally led to stay in Ketu’s direction, because it is easier, we are already accustomed and feel kind of "safe" there. But it is all an illusion. We should be brave enough to decide in favour of the path that will lead us to our "new existence", even if we feel it is uncertain. In this our Free Will stands. I have noticed that people who are called to take decisions but refuse to do so, are likely to fall ill, sometimes seriously. This is a sign of what I just said.
We are used to think of Free Will as of something easy to achieve, but it is not so. This wrong understanding has made people believe that it cannot exist, and there are people who do nothing in their life just because they think they should not, that God is going to guide them. But God guides those people who are willing to take the difficult path leading them to happiness. The point is that they should be willing. If I sit and wait, I will stay where I have come from. If I don’t decide to move, I will stay in the same place where I have come from. It is very easy indeed to think that God is responsible of everything. God can help us in reaching our path and walk on it, but only if we really want to.
All this, I believe, is clearly shown in the astrological chart, which can help us detect our evolutionary path. But after that, each of us, in his own capacity, must move towards that path, trying to avoid the bad aspects involved in Rahu’s sign and house position.
Religion and Astrology can indeed help Man realize the unity between Earth and Heaven within himself.
